Fritillaria Uva Vulpis
Fritillaria Uva Vulpis
Height: 25-35 cm
Blooms: April-May
In Latin, 'uva' means grape and 'vulpis' means fox. The fox grape occurs naturally in cornfields and hay meadows in Turkey, Iraq and Iran.
A strong bloomer with long glossy leaves covered with a blue-green haze. The tip of the stem is curved and aubergine-coloured bell-shaped flowers hang subdued like grapes from slender stems. Golden yellow edges decorate the tips of the petals. When the flowers open, they reveal a beautiful yellow center decorated with tiny black veins.
Fritillaria Uva Vulpis freely gives its nectar to bees and bumblebees. It likes a well-drained moist soil. However, it is important that the bulbs do not get too wet. On the other hand, the bulbs are prone to drying out. So when you receive the bulbs, it is best to plant them as soon as possible. A flower with a mysterious appearance for the rock garden or a border. But also great in pots where the subtle grace of the flowers can be admired up close.
