Ipheions are also known as the Spring Stars or less flatteringly, Old Women. The latter nickname was acquired because the bulbs appear shriveled.
Originally from South America. The small bloomer has lilac-blue star-shaped flowers that bloom one after the other, giving it a longer flowering period. The flowers smell slightly of honey. The petals are decorated with a darker stripe on each petal. Small yellow stamens are hidden in the calyx with their heads just visible. Ipheion has narrow light green leaves.
Plant them in the sun or partial shade in the lawn, under shrubs or in rockeries, in borders or pots. She brightens up any place with her beauty and also keeps nematodes away from your roses.
