Tulipa clusiana var. Chrysantha
Tulipa clusiana var. Chrysantha
Chrysantha derived from the Greek words chrysos and anthos meaning golden flower. She is known as Golden Lady Tulip. A real gem.
The golden yellow flowers remain closed during dark days, their characteristic red of the outer leaves prominently in the picture. During sunny days the leaves open and turn into a beautiful golden yellow star. She stands on graceful stems that are flanked by blue-green leaves.
Tulipa Clusiana var. chrysantha belongs to the botanical tulips. Unlike ordinary tulips, botanical tulips are a food source for bees, bumblebees and butterflies. This small elegant bloomer likes a dry warm spot in the garden and is excellent for pots, rockeries and borders. Or plant her in numbers in the lawn for a cheerful, playful effect in the spring. If you remove the flower with stem after flowering and leave the leaves on for a while, you will enjoy this elegant Golden Lady year after year.
